The Expectations Project Statement on the Atlanta Murders

Image

Washington, DC—

We are devastated by the murders of 8 people in Atlanta, 6 of whom were Asian American women. We see this as a crime motivated by gender and race. Asian people face terrible oppression in our society yet they deserve equity at work, at school, and in every aspect of their day-to-day lives.

As we advocate for all children to receive the education they deserve, we know that naming and facing racial injustice towards all people of color is a part of this work. We honor and thank the educators who are grappling with how to support their Asian students, even more, this week and we will continue to do our best to advocate for the rights of children of color in public schools.  #stopaapihate
